My garage door was in the water during a storm. What should I check?
Look at the bottom section, the bottom brackets, the cable ends and the roller stems for rust and swelling. Steel skins delaminate and wood cores swell after brackish water. Any opener that got wet should be tested for safe reverse. Structural rust at the bottom bracket is a replace, not a repair.
Can an old extension spring door be converted to torsion?
Usually, if there is enough headroom above the opening for a torsion tube and drums. A lot of the older Bonita houses near the river have low headroom, and in those cases a low headroom torsion kit or a properly contained extension setup with safety cables is the safer answer.
